The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has assumed control of the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja following its reopening by the Nigeria Police Force.
This was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the National Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, through its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, who warned against any actions capable of disrupting activities at the secretariat.
The PDP has been enmeshed in a prolonged internal crisis that culminated in a breakdown of order at its national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, on November 18, 2025. The clash involved rival factions of the party’s National Working Committee led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN) and Abdulrahman Mohammed, with the former backed by Governors Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed.
However, the crisis took a decisive turn on March 9, 2026, when the Court of Appeal ruled in favour of the Mohammed-led faction, nullifying the Ibadan convention held on November 16.
Reacting to the latest development, the Mohammed-led NWC commended the Nigeria Police Force for what it described as professionalism and adherence to the rule of law in reopening and handing over the secretariat.
According to the statement, the police unsealed Wadata Plaza and the party’s Legacy House in Maitama, and formally handed them over to the party’s National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, in compliance with court orders.
“The party strongly warns that it will not tolerate any act capable of causing obstruction, disruption or breach of peace at the secretariat,” the statement read, adding that security agencies had been placed on alert to deal with violators.
The faction described the development as a resolution of the party’s recent internal challenges and called on aggrieved members to embrace reconciliation in the interest of unity.
It also expressed appreciation to party stakeholders, particularly Wike, for their support during the crisis, noting that his leadership played a significant role in the outcome.
The statement added that the party would now focus on rebuilding and strengthening its structure ahead of future political engagements.
