The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating across Akure claiming that a traditional curfew had been imposed in parts of the city.
The Command described the information as entirely false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command stressed that there is no curfew in place and no security situation that justifies alarm.
It explained that the rumour appeared to be deliberately spread to create fear and disrupt the normal activities of residents within the state capital.
The Police warned that individuals or groups engaged in the spread of fake news and misinformation would not be spared, noting that such actions pose a threat to public peace and order.
According to the Command, anyone found responsible for circulating false information intended to incite panic would be duly investigated and prosecuted under the law.
Residents were therefore urged to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and disregard unverified reports capable of causing confusion.
Reaffirming its commitment, the Command said it remains fully dedicated to safeguarding lives and property while maintaining peace and stability across Ondo State.
