The Edo State Police Command has rescued the remaining six passengers abducted during an attack on a commercial bus operated by Young Shall Grow Motors along the Benin-Lagos Road.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, saying the victims were rescued during sustained bush-combing operations carried out over several days.

The passengers were reportedly kidnapped on May 9, 2026, at Ogua Community while travelling from Akwa Ibom State to Lagos.

According to the police, armed men intercepted the commercial bus conveying 13 passengers and abducted several occupants after attacking the vehicle.

The command stated that security operatives immediately launched coordinated rescue operations following the incident, leading to the rescue of five passengers, including two adults and three children.

It added that on May 10, operatives intensified efforts using drones, aerial surveillance and intelligence-driven tactics to track the kidnappers within the forest.

The police said the operation resulted in a gun duel between security agents and the abductors, leading to the rescue of two additional passengers.

“The Edo State Police Command wishes to update the general public on the kidnapping incident which occurred on 9th May, 2026, at Ogua Community along the Benin-Lagos Road, where armed kidnappers attacked a commercial bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors conveying 13 passengers from Akwa Ibom State to Lagos,” the statement read.

The command noted that a female passenger sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.

It, however, confirmed that the remaining six abducted passengers had now been rescued unhurt.

Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives involved in the rescue mission for their commitment and professionalism.

He also assured residents that efforts were ongoing to arrest the perpetrators and ensure they faced prosecution.
