Man Alleged Of Killing Wife, Family Demands Justice

A staff of the Land Department in the Ondo State Ministry of Works, Mr Ayobami Oloruntuyi has allegedly beaten his wife and mother of three children, Mrs Atinuke Oloruntuyi to death.

The tragic incidence took place on Thursday 1st of October this year at the residence of the couple at Asoga area in Oba-Ile Estate, Akure, the state capital.

According to the father of the deceased, Mr Omotoso “my Son-in law, Ayobami Oloruntuyi) called me at about 11:53 am on the first of October and reported that my daughter was dead and i queried what could have suddenly killed someone who sent me a new month message at about half past nine that day. But he told me that my daughter complained of stomach ache and he invited a Doctor to take care of her at home. He said she passed out as she was being transfused with water”.

The 63 years old father of late Atinuke, Mr Omotoso said he did not believe the account of his son in law as to what killed his daughter because report from close sources confirmed her being assaulted always by the husband, even two weeks earlier which led to her being in a state of comma.

Mr Omotoso said the deceased was buried on Saturday at a location reportedly belonging to the husband.

The man also alleged that he was being prevented access to the three children of his late daughter.

Mr Omotoso, who is a timber contractor is now crying for justice as he was not convinced of the narrative as to what killed his daughter.

He said the matter had been reported to the police but efforts to get reaction from the police have been unsuccessful.

An attempt to speak with Mr Ayobami Oloruntuyi was not successful as he did not pick any of the many calls put across to him.

Speaking on the incidence, the Chairperson of the National Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Ondo State Chapter, Mrs Doris Olumoko said the matter must not be allowed to be swept under the carpet in the interest of the society at large.

Mrs Olumoko added that the account of the deceased father made the case appear suspicious as one likely of domestic violence.

Meanwhile, The International federation of women lawyers, FIDA ,Ondo branch says it will ensure that Justice is served in the suspected case of a woman battered to death by her husband and father of three children .

A statement by the chairperson of the association Barrister Bola Joel-Ogundadegbe and made available in Akure says domestic violence in the state is on the increase especially in the period of covid -19 .

The statement further stresses that women who suffer domestic violence should first of all leave the hostile environment to save themselves because when the violence meted on them by their spouses occur, the children suffer the loss of their mother and every child deserves the right to be nurtured by his/her mother .

The Association expresses sadness over the demise of late Mrs Oloruntuyi Atinuke who was severally abused by her husband until her death leaving behind three children of ages seven, five and three .

FIDA promises to take proactive step to get justice for the bereaved family to serve as deterrent to other violent and abusive partners in the interest of a sane and secured society.
