About 84 pupils of the Hizburrahim Islamiyya school in Katsina were rescued by the police command in the state following a distress call on Saturday, December 19.

According to the police spokesman in the state, SP Gambo Isah, the pupils were kidnapped while on their way back from Maulud occasion celebrated at Unguwan Alkasim village in the state, Channels TV reports.

Isah revealed that the bandits prior to the attack had abducted four students, having stolen 12 cows from Danbaure village.

A statement released by Isah on the release of the statement read:

“Subsequently, the teams succeeded in dislodging the bandits and rescued all the eighty-four (84) kidnapped victims and recovered all the twelve rustled cows.

“Search parties are still combing the area with a view of arresting the injured bandits and/or recovery of their dead bodies. The investigation is ongoing.”

Meanwhile, Boko Haram insurgents have kidnapped another set of Nigerians in Borno. The terrorists launched the attack on Saturday, December 19, along the Damaturu/Maiduguri highway in the state.

Eyewitnesses claimed that before the kidnap, the terrorists mounted checkpoints in Jakana and Auno towns, stopping vehicles and whisking away persons they deemed as targets in an operation that lasted over 30 minutes.

Among commercial drivers who witnessed the abduction is one who said:

“We stopped afar and noticed the boys moving people into the bush. We already close to the checkpoint when I saw one vehicle reverse with speed and warned us not to advance.”

However, the development is yet to be confirmed by the police command in the state.
