Troops Inflict Heavy Casualties on Boko Haram in Borno

Nigerian Army troops of Tura Takaibango in conjunction with the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole have inflicted unconfirmed number of casualties on Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists when they attempted to attack a military base located at the outskirts of Marte in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday, January 15, 2021.

The gallant troops also effectively destroyed seven gun trucks belonging to Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists groups during the attack.

According to a release made available by the Acting Director of Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko on Saturday, January 16, 2021, the troops acted based on reliable information about the attack. General Onyeuko stated that the troops had positioned themselves in an ambush site, where they tactically withdrew to, and awaited the arrival of the terrorists.

It was added in the release that the troops promptly opened fire immediately the terrorists were sighted. The ensued fierce battle therefore resulted in the heavy casualty suffered by the insurgents.

Meanwhile, the statement also added that the troops were still in pursuit of the fleeing terrorists for further further exploitation.
