Army Renames North East Counterinsurgency Operation
Nigerian Army has changed the operational name of the North East counterinsurgency operation from Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) to Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK). Approval for this renaming was given by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru
on Thursday, April 30, 2021.
According to a press release made available on Friday by the Director of Army Public Relations,
Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, the change in operational name was premised on the fact that Nigerian Army has made substantial progress over the years and therefore need to re-align for better efficiency.
Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima also informed that the re-designation would affect the Army Super Camps which will henceforth, reflect the nomenclature of the formations and units, followed by the name of the locations they occupy. Also, sub-units have been redesigned as Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), followed by the name of their locations. It was added that all the changes in nomenclature are to take immediate effect.
The press release read, “The renaming is in line with the COAS vision of having a Nigerian Army that is repositioned to professionally defeat all adversaries in a joint environment”.
It was further added that the Chief of Army Staff believed that complete defeat of insurgency was a process that requires the participation of the entire nation by using all elements of national power.
Moreso, further assurance was given by the Chief of Army Staff that Nigerian Army under his leadership will continue to pursue the path of concerted effort in prosecuting the counterinsurgency war.
