Willian leaves Arsenal by mutual consent

Arsenal football club have confirmed the club have mutually terminated the contract of Willian after 12 months at the club.

Willian who had two more years left on his contract at Emirates, agreed to leave the club mutually after discussions between the club’s management and the player.

“Following positive and constructive recent discussions with him and his team, he will be leaving for a new opportunity with Corinthians in Brazil, where he began his career,” the club said in a statement.

“Everyone at Arsenal wishes Willian and his family well for the future.”

The Brazilian midfielder joined Arsenal from Chelsea last season and made 37 appearances for the Gunners.

He is expected to join Corinthians in Brazil after successful completion of the termination process.

The Arsenal directors were amazed by the gesture of the 33-year-old, saving the club a whopping sum of £20.5m, he is also set to take a 70 per cent pay cut to return to his former club.
