The National Examination Council on Friday released results of the 2021 internal examinations despite failing to pay its examiners.

Some of the affected examiners, who spoke to our correspondent in Abuja, lamented the failure of the council to pay them their stipends before the release of the results despite the initial agreements.

The result of examination which was written in July was released on Friday.

The Registrar of the council, Dantali Wushishi, who spoke with newsmen, disclosed that while 1,233,631 candidates registered only 1,226,631 actually sat for the examination.

Wushishi explained that 878,925 candidates obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, while 1,094,291candidates also obtained five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.

He said, “The number of candidates who made five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, was 878,925 representing 71.64 per cent.

“When compared with 2020 SSCE internal figures of 894,101, which was 73.89 per cent, a 2.2 per cent decrease was noted. The number of candidates who made five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics was 1,226,796, representing 94.04 per cent.

He also said candidates involved in various forms of malpractices in 2021 were 20,003, representing 1.63 per cent, whereas 33,470 representing 2.63 percent cases were recorded.

However, a certain Ms Anna Andoke, who spoke to our correspondent, lamented her plight.

She said, “What they did is not fair; how can they release results while failing to pay us our money? This is not good enough.

Another examiner, Olayode Philips, said, “NECO should be talked to; how can you release the results of an exam you have not paid for?

“Those that marked the scripts are lamenting that they want to collect their stipends and you are releasing results. This is not fair. A move needs to start as regards this wickedness by NECO.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the council, Azeez Sani, said, “The council is making sure that the payments are effected.”
