News Police deploy men to checkpoints after soldiers’ withdrawal in Ondo

With the withdrawal of military personnel from checkpoints and highways in Ondo State, policemen have been drafted to mount the checkpoints and inter state boundaries.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bolaji Salami, deployed the men in order to curb plans by criminals to capitalise on the security situation of the state.

DAILY POST had reported that insecurity looms in the State following the withdrawal of soldiers from various checkpoints across the state.

Confirming the deployment of the policemen, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the State, DSP Funmi Odunlami stated that the officers have been warned against extortion.

According to the PPRO, the move by the police command was due to the withdrawal of soldiers from all military checkpoints on major highways in the state.

She added that since the development, residents of the state have been expressing fear over the security situation on the highway, hence the move by the police command in the state.

Odunlami said, “After what happened, we have deployed our men to those axes because people have been apprehensive of probable breach of security in those areas and that is why we have to act now to allay fears of residents and motorists.”

She, however, urged commuters and motorists to go about their lawful businesses and activities and as well as report any extortion by any police officer on the highway to the command.
