International Friendly: Algeria’s Fennec Foxes subdue Nigeria’s Super Eagles 2-1
Algeria came from behind to beat Nigeria’s Super Eagles 2-1 in an international friendly played in Oran.
It was Nigeria that took the lead in the 8th minute when Terem Moffi tapped in a loose ball to give Nigeria the lead in the well-attended match.
Nigeria had taken a 2-0 toward the end of the first half through Ademola Lookman but the goal was ruled out for offside by the centre referee.
The host began to dominate the match until Algeria levelled up through a penalty kick by Riyadh Mahrez in the 41st minute to put the tie at 1-1.
Algeria continued their dominance in the second half in the 60th minute a long-range shot by Youcel Atal beat goalkeeper Francis Uzoho to give the host a 2-1 lead.
Despite spirited efforts by the Eagles, they failed to level up the match for the encounter to end 2-1 in favour of the home team.
The win again confirmed the supremacy of the Algerians over Nigeria in their last two meeting in an international friendly.
