Tinubu’s govt will tackle youth unemployment, says Shettima
The vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Kashim Shettima, has said the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will create platforms to gainfully engage millions of jobless Nigerian youths, if voted into office in 2023.
Shettima, the immediate past governor of Borno State, spoke yesterday in Abuja when the Senate Press Corps presented him with a congratulatory message on his victory as the APC vice presidential candidate.
He said: “The task ahead of us is an onerous one; it’s a task of nation-building; it’s a task for us to coalesce into a single course and see to the realisation of the full potentials of our nation, a very young nation. The average age of the Nigerian population is 19.
“May God give us the wisdom with good health to come up with robust platforms of engaging multitudes of our youths who are jobless and who are hungry.
“We owe it to God and humanity. The Nigerian nation has been kind to us. This is payback time. I want to make my pledge and commitment to you that by God’s grace, we will serve this nation with the fear of God in equity, justice and inclusivity.”
Chairman of the Senate Press Corps, James Itodo, who presented the congratulatory message to the senator, said the corps had no doubt that Shettima is naturally endowed to handle the tasks ahead.
Also, a former Yobe State governor and ex-Chairman of APC governors’ forum, called Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, has urged progressive Nigerians to support Asiwaju Tinubu and Senator Shettima.
In a statement by his media aide, Grema Mohammed Zubairu, the former governor said: “What we see about the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the APC is not a religious agenda. The emergency of Asiwaju Tinubu and …Shettima was, to the best of my knowledge, not done on religious ground but on capacity and competence. These individuals are very sound-minded Nigerians who can move this country forward.
“They are not religious leaders. They are politicians who have a religion, just like every other Nigerian, and that should not be a big deal.
“For Nigeria to move forward, we must de-emphasise our differences and embrace one another for the common good of this country. The biggest job ahead of every progressive Nigerian now is to see how we garner support for Asiwaju and Shettima to emerge victorious at the general election next year. This talk about religion will rather take us back than forward.”
In Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, thousands of APC supporters and loyalists of Asiwaju Tinubu converged on the party’s state secretariat at Oke-Ado ahead of a rally and street walk to garner support for the party’s presidential candidate and his running mate in the 2023 general election.
Several support groups arrived the party’s secretariat as early as 7 a.m, waiting for the commencement of the rally across the ancient city.
The supporter carried placards with various inscriptions, such as: “Awa Lokan” (It’s our turn); “Jagaban Lokan” (It’s Jagaban’s turn); “Tessy Lokan” (It’s Teslim Folarin’s turn); “Road to Aso Rock”; “Vote Tinubu”; and “Asiwaju is our man”, among others.
Oyo State APC governorship candidate and former Senate Leader Teslim Folarin urged Nigerians to vote for good governance, infrastructure, employment and development, which he said the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket represents.
The APC governorship candidate noted that instead of wasting energy on religious sentiment, Nigerians should choose effective, capable and trustworthy leaders, like the APC candidates.
He described the Tinubu/Shettima ticket as a perfect match.
