Ondo: APC Gubernatorial Aspirant, Ajagunna Set To Dump Party

One of the Governorship aspirants in the November 2024 governorship election in Ondo State, Prof Ibrahim Ajagunna, popularly known as PIA, is said to be defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sources close to the party disclosed that this is unconnected to recent development in the State, particularly the intra-party crisis within the APC.

One of the sources who is a party Executive member in the state said, “I can tell you that PIA is likely to defect from the APC.

The APC primary election in the state is slated to hold later next month, where the party is expected to elect its flag-bearer, possibly through the direct election mode.

Another source, who is a strong member of the APC in the state, added that a large number of members in the APC would be defecting from the ruling party with Prof. Ibrahim Ajagunna.

“As it is, I can’t solely say the particular party he’s defecting to. But I can assure you that large numbers of APC in the state would defect. In the last meeting we had, these were some of the things we discussed as concerns. In fact, other aspirants may drop their interest to back PIA.”

When contacted, the media aide of the gubernatorial aspirant, Tolulope Adeyefa, would not speak to journalists.

In September 2023, Ajagunna, an indigene of Ikare-Akoko and Professor of Sustainable Development in Jamaica disclosed his interest to vie for the Ondo State top seat.
