Ondo Assembly confirms 12 commissioner-nominees

The Ondo State House of Assembly on Wednesday screened and confirmed the 12 commissioner-nominees sent to it by Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa

Aiyedatiwa had on Thursday submitted the names of the nominees to the State House of Assembly.

The commissioner-designates are: Pastor Segun Ayerin, Mr Olaolu Akindolire, Alhaji Hamidu Takuro, Dr Banji Ajaka and Mr Boye Ologbese.

Others are: Mr Sunday Akinwalere, Deaconess Lola Fagbemi, Mr Saka-Yusuf Ogunleye, Mr Rasheed Badmus, Mr Olayato Aribo, Mr Adewale Akinlosotu, and Mr Gbenga Olaniyi.

Presenting the report of the Selection Committee of the House, Mr Abayomi Akinruntan, the Vice Chairman of the Committee, stated that the nominees were properly screened.

Akinruntan added that the committee’s assessment found the nominees qualified and medically fit to serve as commissioners in various portfolios that would be assigned to them in the state.

He, therefore,asked the lawmakers to confirm the nominees.

Thereafter, Mr Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, APC/Owo 1, therefore , moved a motion for the confirmation of the nominees and Mr Olajide Oguntundun/ Akure South 1 seconded the motion.

Chief Olamide Oladiji, the Speaker of the House of the Assembly, said that the nominees had been carefully selected by the state governor.

Oladiji said that it was a statutory responsibility of the parliament to screen and confirm the nominees, appreciating the state governor for his commitment and efforts to ensure the state’s growth and development.

He asked the commissioner designates to assist the governor to take the state to place of pride and edifice.

The speaker appreciated the lawmakers for demonstrating a special gift and for showing that they’re are worth representatives of their respective constituencies.

The speaker admonished the designates to strive for the best, saying that people are expecting much from them, adding that they could not afford to fail and that with their coming, value will be added to the state government.

Appreciating on behalf of all the commissioner-designates, Mrs Lola Fagbemi, promised that the commissioner-designates would be committed to the development of the state, saying that they would not disappoint the lawmakers but put efforts to take the state to a greater height.

The speaker, therefore, declared a 5-week recess to start on Thursday and end on May 9 to enable the lawmakers attend to political activities in their various constituencies ahead of governorship primaries.
