The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has assured that it is monitoring the case of the police officer who allegedly defiled a 17-year-old girl.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim alleged that she was raped inside the Ogudu Police Station in the Ojota area of the state, after the officer had promised to help retrieve her phone, which had been taken by ‘one chance’ robbers on June 16 while she, her grandmother, and her siblings were returning from Ikeja.

The mother of the victim, Aramide Olupona, on Friday accused the police of trying to bury the case, saying, “The suspect’s wife and the rest of his family have come to my shop to plead with me saying he would soon retire, but what about my daughter who was raped? Is it because I am a poor woman?”

In a telephone interview with PUNCH Metro, on Tuesday, the DSVA Lagos spokesperson, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, assured the public that the agency was involved in the case.

This case was reported to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and immediately, the necessary referrals were made both for medical and psychosocial support which has been provided to the survivor as well as investigation of the crime.

This was made to the Gender Desk Department of the Lagos State Police Command. As is the usual practice, police investigation is ongoing and we are eagerly awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.

“As a state, we remain committed to ensuring survivors access justice and perpetrators are held accountable for their actions, especially to serve as a deterrent to others.

We are involved in the case, we will play our part, we will do our part, that is guaranteed,” Lola Vivour-Adeniyi said.

PUNCH Metro reported on Monday that the Lagos State Police Command had begun a full-scale investigation into the alleged rape accusation against one of its officers by a 17-year-old girl.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Sunday, also disclosed that the officer whose identity was yet to be disclosed had been taken into custody.
