Fire razes down furniture workshop

An early morning fire on Tuesday completely razed down a furniture workshop in the Felele area of Ibadan, Oyo State, and destroyed property worth millions of naira.

A witness, who asked for anonymity, told journalists that he noticed the fire raging at the furniture workshop around 5:00 a.m. when he was about to go to the mosque for the morning prayers.

The witness said the cause of the fire incident was unknown to him, and firefighters were immediately alerted.

The general manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, later confirmed the incident, saying the agency received a call about the fire incident at exactly 5:34 a.m.

He said after the call came in from one Mr Olátúnjí from Splash FM in Ibadan, men of his agency immediately swung into action.

Mr Akinyinka said the agency’s personnel were promptly deployed to the scene of the fire incident to put it off, and they prevented it from spreading to nearby buildings.

He said the furniture workshop, located at No. 51, Debo Plaza, Opposite Lam Adesina Junction at Felele, was made of plank, which was purely combustible and aided the fire’s momentum.

“The whole workshop was razed down, but no life was lost, and the cause of the fire incident is yet to be known.

“But while the fire has been successfully put off, some of the nearby buildings, made up of a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) parish and a New Covenant Church, were also affected.

“The furniture workshop was in the middle of the churches where the fire started,” he said.
