“The Unfair Burden of Consistency: Why Past Statements Shouldn’t Define Us”

In today’s Nigeria, we’re often quick to judge individuals based on their past statements, particularly when they concern our present leaders. However, this approach is both unfair and counterproductive.
People grow, learn, and evolve. Our perspectives shift as we gain new insights and experiences. It’s unreasonable to expect individuals to maintain the same views forever, especially when faced with changing circumstances.
Disparaging comments made about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR in the past should not be used to define a person’s character or loyalty today. We should focus on their current actions, policies, and contributions to the nation’s progress.
Holding people hostage to their past statements stifles free speech, discourages honest dialogue, and creates a culture of fear. It’s essential to separate past criticisms from present realities, allowing individuals to evolve in their thinking, make amends for past mistakes where necessary and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth
Let’s embrace a more nuanced approach, recognizing that personal growth and redemption are essential aspects of human nature. By doing so, we’ll foster a more inclusive, dynamic, and forward-thinking society.
Remember, it’s time to move beyond the shackles of past statements and focus on building a brighter future for Nigeria.
