The Lagos State Government has announced an increase in boarding fees for all secondary schools across the state, raising the amount from N35,000 to N100,000 per term.

A letter sent to all boarding school principals, signed by Olufemi Asaolu, Director of Basic Education Services at the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, stated:

“I have the directive of the Honourable Commissioner to inform all Public Boarding House schools in Lagos State that the State Government has approved the review of the Boarding fee payable in all Public Boarding House schools in Lagos State. The newly approved fee is N100,000 Only.”

The letter, titled “Review of Boarding Fees in All Public Secondary Schools in Lagos State for 2024/2025 Session,” also stated that no additional fees should be collected by the schools and announced that the resumption date has been set for September 15, 2024.

“I am further directed to inform you that no additional fee of any form should be collected by the schools.
“Kindly note that the resumption date remains 15th September 2024.”

Meanwhile, the Managing Director, Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, had cautioned residents of the state against dropping their wastes on the road medians.

He gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on the sidelines of the Lagos Recyclers Association’s, LAGRA, 3rd Annual Conference and Exhibition on Friday in Lagos.

Gbadegesin condemned the indiscriminate littering of road medians in the state with domestic waste, warning that defaulters would, henceforth, be arrested and prosecuted.

“With respect to our waste collectors, we have been placing sanctions and suspending those of them who do not clear waste on a regular basis and replacing those who clearly do not have the capacity.
