In his 64th
Independence Day address, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the launch of the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme a government initiative aimed at creating 2.5 million jobs annually, both directly and indirectly.

The program, set to begin in November 2024, is expected to improve the welfare and safety of workers across Nigeria.

The president highlighted LEEP as a key part of his administration’s strategy to tackle unemployment, stating that it will be implemented through the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

“Later this month, we shall launch The Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme.

“It is conceived as a comprehensive suite of interventions at job creation by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment that is aimed at facilitating the creation of 2.5 million jobs, directly and indirectly, on an annual incremental basis whilst simultaneously ensuring the welfare and safety of workers across the country,” Tinubu said during his speech.

In addition to the employment program, President Tinubu announced plans for a national 30-day Youth Conference, aimed at addressing economic challenges and ensuring that the voices of young Nigerians are heard and reflected in government policies.

“Better days are ahead for Nigeria,” the president assured, calling on citizens to remain hopeful amidst the nation’s economic difficulties.
