Four escape death in accident

No fewer than four persons escaped death in an accident that occurred along the Car Park – C axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday evening.

PUNCH Metro gathered from the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, on Wednesday, that the crash occurred following a tyre burst incident involving a truck while in motion.

Akinbiyi noted that an eyewitness account indicated the truck with registration number FKA 195 XA overturned and spilt its contents on a Hyundai car moving in the same direction.

He said, “According to an eyewitness, the driver of the loaded DAF truck lost control due to a tyre burst while driving, and the truck overturned, spilling its contents onto the Hyundai car.

Akinbiyi, however, urged motorists to always ensure their vehicles are in good condition before setting out on road trips to avoid accidents.

“Our appeal to motorists is to always ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before travelling on the highway so that incidents like this can be prevented. TRACE remains committed to keeping Ogun State roads safe at all times,” he concluded.

PUNCH Metro had reported on Friday that an unidentified driver escaped death after a 40-foot container fell in the Mile 2 area of Lagos State.

The incident, according to the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, had occurred at about 5 pm last Thursday.

Taofiq noted that a black Toyota Jeep with number plate AAA 144 GU was impacted by the incident, but the driver miraculously escaped unharmed.

He added that the driver of the containerised truck had, however, sustained severe injuries.
