Ondo Assembly extols late former members’ virtues
The Ondo State House of Assembly has extolled the virtues of two late members of the assembly, Mr Fatai Adams and Mr Igbekele Bolodeoku.
The duo were members of the assembly between 2007 and 2011.
Adams, who represented Êse-Odo Constituency, died on Feb.14, 2024 at the age of 55 while Bolodeoku, who represented Akoko North-West 2, died on July 29 at the age of 56.
The House Majority Leader, Mr Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi,Owo 1/ APC , moved a motion to make a speech and oration for the duo and it was seconded by Mr Tope Agbulu, Akoko South-West 2/PDP.
Speaking on late Adams, Mr Tayo Abidakun, a former lawmaker, described Adams as a complete gentleman; a loyal man to his party and a thorough and refined politician.
Also speaking, Mr Olaniran Adebusuyi, a former lawmaker in the state, said that Adams was vocal, quite and a very good person.
In his tribute, Dr Bakitta Bello, former Speaker of the House of Assembly, said that Bolodeoku was very upright and would speak his mind to bring positive changes.
Bello added that the duo gave a true representation to their constituencies, adding that they were very supportive.
He asked current lawmakers to emulate the late former lawmakers and give hope to their respective constituencies.
Elder Mr Ola Oguntimehin, another former lawmaker, said that he had close contact with the duo, describing them as dedicated to their duties, adding that Adams would hardly fight with colleagues and would give respect to others.
Oguntimehin said that Adams played politics without bitterness nor rancour, and would not be attracted to pecuniary means to change his mind.
He added that late Bolodeoku was very bold and fearless and determined with a gift of outspokenness.
Oguntimehin asked the leadership of the House of the Assembly to create a platform that would bring former lawmakers of the assembly together.
In his speech, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Chief Olamide Oladiji, said that one lesson that could be learnt from the duo was that they dedicated their lives to betterment of their people.
“ One lesson we can take home is that the departeds souls loved their people. Whatever you do today becomes history tomorrow.
“ I want to appeal to us to be on the right path in dealing with one another. Let there be oneness for development of the state,” he stated.
A minute silence was observed in honour of late former lawmakers.
