BREAKING: Dozens killed, others injured as soldiers, gunmen engage in gun battle in Imo
In the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, gunmen and troops engaged in a violent altercation that resulted in several casualties.
AFRIPOST.NG gathered that the gunfight happened late last night.
Sources reveal that the armed gang assaulted and murdered numerous troops during the attack, which happened in the Aba branch area.
The entire neighbourhood became a battleground as a result of the rapidly out-of-control scenario, a witness asserted.
“Some non-state actors attacked and killed some soldiers in the area yesterday,” one source explained. “The whole place is on fire, and troops have taken over nearby communities”
The sounds of heavy shooting filled the night, and residents, frightened for their lives, fled their houses. A few families hurriedly departed, uncertain about their prospects of returning to their residences.
One homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “We are terrified.” “We can still hear the sound of gunfire. We’re not sure what will occur next. Since Ehime used to be a calm place, we are concerned since we don’t know what is going on.”
As of the time of filing this report, neither the police nor the military had released an official comment on the incident.
