Bauchi teenagers nabbed for 100 phones, 75 music players theft

The Bauchi State Police Command says it arrested two teenagers for allegedly robbing a phone store and carting 100 mobile phones and 75 music players, among other items.

The spokesperson for the command, Ahmed Wakil, in a statement on Friday disclosed that the arrest followed a theft report by the store owner.

He stressed that upon receiving the report, Police operatives began an investigation into the matter, which led to the arrest of two students of Bakari Dukku Comprehensive Secondary School.

The PPRO added that upon the arrest of the suspects, they confessed to having obtained the key to the store from where the store owner had kept it.

The suspects also disclosed to the police that they sold some of the mobile phones for N5,000 and N8,000.

Wakil narrated, “Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police directed the ORP team, led by CSP Kim Albert, to investigate. The probe led to the arrest of Hamza Sadiq, male, 15 years old, and Adamu Ahmadu, male, 15 years old. Both suspects are students of Bakari Dukku Comprehensive Secondary School.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to having managed to obtain the shop key from where it was stored for safekeeping, timed the shop owner’s departure for the village market, and repeatedly opened the shop door to steal from it during the day.

The suspects sold the stolen items randomly at lower prices, ranging from N8,000 to N5,000. The proceeds of the crime were used to purchase clothes, food, and a smartphone, which was later stolen from one of the suspects as well.”

He added that some of the stolen items, including “21 mobile phones, five MP4 players, one mobile phone charger, and one metal key, were recovered from the suspects.”

While stressing the command’s commitment to combating crime, Wakil said the suspects would be transferred to a remand home for rehabilitation upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.

PUNCH Online reported on September 27 that two students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, were arrested for suspected criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, and theft.

Wakili had explained that the command acted on intelligence from an individual who alerted the Divisional Police Headquarters Yelwa about a group of students assaulting two of their peers
