Gov. Diri approves N80,000 minimum wage for Bayelsa Workers
Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has announced a new minimum wage of N80,000 for civil servants, effective November 1, 2024.
This decision is part of the administration’s strategy to alleviate the impact of rising living costs on workers in the state.
In addition to the wage increase, Governor Diri has approved an increase in monthly pensions for retired workers and allocated N7 billion to address outstanding gratuity liabilities.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, the governor acknowledged the challenging economic conditions faced by workers.
He noted the significance of the wage adjustment in accordance with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment Act 2024).
“The Prosperity Administration of His Excellency Senator Douye Diri has approved the sum of N80,000 as the minimum wage for state workers to mitigate the difficult economic circumstances,” the statement noted.
Also, the governor stated that adjustments for various sectors, reached in agreement with labor leadership in the state, will be put into effect.
Governor Diri expressed his appreciation to the workers and their representatives for their patience and commitment to the government’s policies and initiatives.
