Detained minors: AGF intervenes, requests case file from police

The case file of the detained minors allegedly involved in the “Endbadgovernance protest” has been ordered to be sent to the office of Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

The AGF, Fagbemi disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Friday.

He claimed to have observed that those detained in relation to the Endbadgovernance demonstration had been charged with treason and other offences by the police.

He revealed to be equally aware that the court had postponed the case until January and placed the defendants under custody in prison facilities.

He stated, “It is not within my power to vary the order of the court remanding the defendants in detention centres and adjourning the case to January. But there are some issues my office will need to look into regarding the matter to enable me to make an informed decision.

“I have directed the Nigeria Police to transfer the case file to my office and hand it over to the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF) tomorrow, Saturday, November 2, 2024.

“I have further directed the DPPF to immediately put machinery in motion for consideration of the court to bring the adjournment date forward to an earlier date.’’
