The Ogun State Police Command is on the hunt for an unidentified driver who allegedly killed two persons, including a driver and a passenger, at the Ibafo section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Our correspondent learnt on Sunday that the incident took place at approximately 11:23 p.m. on Saturday, in front of the NIPCO Gas Filling Station.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Sunday, stating that it involved a Nissan Caravan commercial bus with the number plate DELTA AGB 840 ZT and an unidentified truck belonging to the Indomie company.

The truck driver, whose identity was still unknown as of the time of filing this report, was reportedly driving recklessly out of the NIPCO filling station when the commercial vehicle collided with it.

Following the collision, our correspondent learnt that the commercial bus driver and a passenger died instantly, while the truck driver fled the scene upon realising the consequences of his driving.

Our correspondent learnt that officers from the Ojodu Abiodun Division had launched a manhunt to apprehend the fleeing truck driver.

Odutola said, “The truck suddenly exited the NIPCO gas filling station without a clear view of the expressway, and the oncoming Nissan bus, travelling at high speed crashed into it.

The driver of the Nissan bus and a passenger died on the spot, and their bodies have been taken to the Real Divine Touch Hospital in Ibafo. The truck driver fled the scene with his vehicle.

“All efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing driver. The Nissan bus has been recovered and is currently held at the police station for safekeeping and VIO inspection.”

This incident follows another fatal accident that occurred on November 1, 2024, involving a truck with the number plate 373 and a motorcycle with the plate OGUN TTN 988 VN, which claimed the lives of three people along Ayetoro Road in Adehun, Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

The command attributed the cause of the accident to the dangerous driving of the truck driver, identified as Olushola Adedokun, resulting in his arrest by the police operatives in Lafenwa division.

Odutola further concluded that the dangerous driving resulted in the deaths of the motorcycle rider, Aderoju Gafar, 52, and one of the two passengers, Toyosi Odeluyi, 25. The second passenger, whose name and address have not yet been identified, sustained a leg fracture.

“The accident was caused by the dangerous driving of the truck driver, who has since been arrested and detained. The injured passenger was taken to the hospital by his family members before we arrived at the scene.

“One of the bodies has been released to a family member upon request for burial, while the other has been taken to the mortuary,” Odutola stated.
