Group carpets Ondo PDP for allegedly buying voter’s cards in villages, calls on police to be vigilant

A socio-cultural organisation, Sunshine Renaissance, has called on the Nigerian Police to be vigilant and proactive during the Saturday gubernatorial poll in Ondo State as it alleged that hundreds of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s members are moving round villages to buy voter’s cards.

The Publicity Secretary of the group, Adeola Ijalaye, made this known in a statement on Wednesday, saying the alleged buying of voter’s cards was a calculated attempt by PDP members to rig the forthcoming poll in the State and claim victory through the back door.

According to the group, a large numbers of the main opposition living in the rural communities were invited to the house of a prominent PDP member at Alagbaka Estate, Akure on Tuesday night and two bank officials were also present at the meeting where the tactics for vote-buying without traces were sealed.

It added that those who were mobilised for these activities have swung into action Wednesday morning negotiating with voters in different villages.

“The statement read,” Patriotic members of the public called our attention to this heinous act of buying of voter’s cards in the villages on Wednesday morning, in which we swiftly moved into action; upon thorough investigation, we gathered that the plan of buying voter’s cards in the rural communities was hatched at the residence of a prominent PDP members at Alagbaka Estate, Akure.

“We also deduced that those individuals that were selected from different rural communities to do the job were tutored by staff of two new generation banks at the venue on Tuesday night and they have been moving round early Wednesday morning to buy cards from unsuspecting and greedy voters.

“We, therefore, urge security agents to be vigilant and proactive in order not to allow unscrupulous individuals to fraudulently hijack power through the back door”.
