Popular Islamic leader confirmed dead in Kaduna

Jafaru Makarfi, a revered Islamic leader and former public servant, passed away in Kaduna on Saturday night at the age of 93.

The news of his death was shared by Suleman Abdulkadir on behalf of the family. Makarfi was a key figure in Nigeria’s Muslim community, having served as the Chairman of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) in Kaduna State and as a commissioner in the former Kaduna State.

Makarfi’s career spanned more than 40 years with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), where he began in 1950.

He made history as the first Northerner to become the District Superintendent of the NRC’s Western District.

A funeral prayer for Makarfi will take place on Sunday at 1:00 pm at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna. He leaves behind six children.
