ASUP Threatens to Shut Down Nigerian Polytechnics, Gives Date

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has urged all its institutions to shut down every activity nationwide.

According to the chairman of ASUP of the Kaduna Polytechnic chapter Abubakar Abdullah, the union will shut down all schools across the country on December 2.

Abdullah said ASUP took the decision to shut down its institutions over the Federal Government’s failure to meet its members’ demands.

He said the union had on October 6, 2024, issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government over their agreements.

He said having outlined the pressing demands aimed at resolving the systemic challenges that hinder the progress of polytechnics, FG has refused to meet its end of the agreement.

His words, “Regrettably, as we passed the deadline of this ultimatum, we are yet to see the necessary actions from the Federal Government to address these pressing demands.

“The silence and inaction have left us with no option but to consider the possibility of a total shutdown of our institutions, scheduled for December 2nd, 2024, should our concerns remain unaddressed,” he said.
