Nigeria’s former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida is owing N152 million for a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the FCT Administration has said.
The property, the FCTA said is located in the highbrow Asokoro district of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

In a list released on November 26, 2024, the FCTA gave all defaulters two weeks to settle their outstanding payments of their property and certificate of occupancy (C of O).

According to the list, Babangida; a former governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom and the lawmaker representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal are listed among 9,532 alleged land title debtors in Abuja.

The former Benue governor, according to the document, has an outstanding N950,000 for land in Bazango, an area on the city’s outskirts.

Tambuwal, a serving lawmaker and former governor of Sokoto State owes the administration N18 million for a plot in Carraway Dallas also located a few miles away from Asokoro.
Issuing an ultimatum to the debtors, the FCTA warned that failure to meet the deadline of the payment could lead to the revocation of land titles.

It also stated that all payments must be made via e-payment to the FCT Department of Land Administration account.

Also listed as debtors on the document include, federal government agencies like the Nigeria Navy, the Nigerian Police Force and Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).

Other defaulters include the Kaduna State Government, the Lagos governor’s lodge in Asokoro and the State House Abuja.
