The Osun State Government has announced that the implementation of the newly approved minimum wage of N75,554.20 for civil servants will commence on December 1, 2024.

The approval follows the successful conclusion of negotiations between the state government and organised labour unions.

In addition to the wage increase, the government has also approved an across-the-board addition of N25,000 for all pensioners, with arrears of the minimum wage to be paid alongside November salaries for workers.

Speaking at the formal signing of the agreement, Osun’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, on Friday, highlighted that the decision underscores Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to fostering a motivated and satisfied workforce.

This development demonstrates the Adeleke administration’s determination to maintain a happy labour force and prioritise the welfare of workers and retirees alike,” Alimi stated.

Present at the event were the state chairmen of the Trade Union Congress and Nigeria Labour Congress, Abimbola Fasasi and Christopher Arapasopo.

Commending the harmonious resolution of the negotiations, Osun’s Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, praised Adeleke’s compassionate leadership, which he said had exceeded expectations

The governor has shown empathy and responsibility in addressing labour-related issues. We urge workers to reciprocate by delivering quality service and enhancing productivity across the state,” Adewusi remarked.

A circular dated November 29, 2024, and signed by the Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, provided further insights into the implementation of the new wage structure.

“In the same vein, the Governor has magnanimously approved an improved pension package of ₦25,000 across the board for pensioners in the state.

“This decision reflects the government’s consideration for the plight of our senior citizens and its commitment to resolving all outstanding issues affecting pensioners,” the circular read.

The document also emphasised that the wage increase was the result of “exhaustive negotiations and deliberations” between the government and labour unions, taking into account critical factors such as revenue availability, debt obligations, sustainability, and the continued growth of Osun State

The effective date for the new minimum wage is December 1, 2024, with one month’s arrears to be paid. Other salary structures within the public service will be addressed in due course,” the circular further stated.

The government has called on all public servants, including local government employees, to reciprocate the governor’s gesture by enhancing service delivery and boosting revenue generation

All public servants are enjoined to work with renewed vigour, agility, and dedication to improve service delivery and contribute to the continued development of Osun State,” the circular concluded.
