Edo: Nigerians react as Reno Omokri doctors video to defend Okpebholo’s budget presentation

Nigerians have taken to social media to lambast former presidential aide Reno Omokri for defending Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo after his faltering delivery during the presentation of the 2025 budget to the Edo State House of Assembly.

The governor, who struggled with grammatical errors and repeated stuttering, further stoked controversy by allegedly ordering the arrest of journalists and cameramen covering the event to suppress the embarrassing footage.

In an apparent attempt to shield the governor from public ridicule, Reno Omokri shared a doctored video on Twitter, sparking outrage among Nigerians who accused him of manipulating the narrative.

Social media erupted with criticism, with many calling Omokri a liar and accusing him of lacking integrity.

One user, @Vincent Aluu, refuted Omokri’s claims, stating: “You are a blatant liar. Sir, this is not correct. I watched live on NTA at the office. He tried reading out the figures three times. At the third attempt, he said it is confusing him. He closed the file and went to his seat. Members clapped while the Speaker took over proceedings.”

Another user wrote: “ARE YOU AWARE THAT PEOPLE WATCHED THIS WHILE IT WAS GOING ON?? Reno, you have no integrity at all! Ah!!! Zero! You’re posting the actual doctored video. Only people who don’t know you will believe you.”

Valentine Daniels expressed deeper frustrations, stating: “I have said countless times and still repeating it with all due respect that you won’t die well, sir. If you people had laid a good foundation on Nigerian politics, democracy wouldn’t be so pathetic just as it is right now… I only weep for the uprising generations.”

Another critic accused Omokri of abandoning his principles, tweeting: “You, sir, are a disgrace! Never imagined you can fall any lower than you already have! Please join APC with your full chest. You PDP folks, including your principal, may as well be APC. Why else will Wike be so comfortable doing what he is doing while you guys do nothing? Shameless!”

The controversy has added fuel to the ongoing debate about transparency and integrity in Nigerian politics.

Governor Okpebholo’s decision to suppress press coverage of the incident has been widely condemned, while Omokri’s attempt to spin the narrative has only deepened public mistrust.

As Nigerians continue to voice their frustrations online, calls for accountability and transparency in governance remain at the forefront of the discussion.
