The Ondo State Police Command has revealed the tragic details of a domestic incident where a man fatally set himself and his estranged wife on fire.
The incident occurred two days ago, leaving the wife with severe burns.
In a statement shared on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, the police explained that the man had invited his estranged wife to their former home ander the pretense of collecting her wardrobe.
Upon her arrival, he threatened suicide, locked the door, and carried out the act.
According to the police, “The man called his estranged wife to pick up her belongings.
When she arrived, he began threatening to kill himself. He then locked the door, poured fuel, and used a lighter to set them both on fire.
The man died instantly, while the wife sustained significant burns.”
The woman has since been transferred to a specialized hospital for further treatment.
The police charged the public to avoid toxic relationships to prevent such tragedies.
