Five Arrested for Attempted Sale of Stolen car
The Delta State Police Command has arrested five individuals involved in the attempted theft and sale of a luxurious bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors, a prominent logistics company.
The suspects were paraded at the Ekpan Police Station in the Uvwie Local Government Area, where authorities revealed their alleged plan to steal and dismantle the vehicle for sale.
Speaking during the parade in a video shared on X on Friday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, disclosed that the suspects exploited insider knowledge about the vehicle’s security system.
“One of the suspects previously worked with Young Shall Grow Motors as a panel beater. After leaving the company, he kept monitoring where their vehicles were parked in Abia State. He claimed the company often left their vehicle doors unlocked with the keys in the ignition,” SP Bright explained.
The former employee reportedly collaborated with an accomplice to drive the bus from Aba to Warri, intending to sell it to scrap dealers.
Their plan was, however, foiled by recent warnings issued by the Divisional Police Officer to scrap dealers, cautioning them against purchasing vehicles without proper documentation. This alert prompted dealers to report suspicious activities to the authorities, leading to the suspects’ arrest.
The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with the police reiterating their commitment to curbing vehicle theft in the state.
