Three students from Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, lost their lives in a tragic road accident along the Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye Road on Friday.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, revealing that the crash occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m.

According to the statement, the students were passengers in a commercial Opel Safira vehicle, which veered off the road and overturned into a bush due to the driver’s excessive speed.

“A male passenger, believed to be an OOU student, died on the spot,” Odutola said. “Two female students were rushed to a private hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.”

The deceased female students were identified as Dada Oluwanifesimi, an 18-year-old Mass Communication sophomore, and Miracle Ogo Oluwa Daniel, a 19-year-old junior. Both were taken to Love and Care Hospital, where they passed away during treatment.

Two other students, who sustained critical injuries, were transferred to the OOU Medical Centre for medical attention.

Odutola also disclosed details about the driver, identified as Adekunkle Adebiyi, who resides at 5 Sunmibare Street, Awa Ijebu. The vehicle, bearing the licence plate Lagos AAA-126HE, has been recovered and secured at the police station.

The police spokesperson concluded by stating, “This tragic event highlights the dangers of speeding. Updates on the condition of the injured students will be shared as they become available.”

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital Ijebu Ode mortuary, while investigations into the accident are ongoing.
