Lagos prince demands hoodlums’ sacking from community

A Lagos prince, Yusuf Olarinde, has raised the alarm over the alleged invasion of suspected hoodlums at the New Oguntedo community at the Satellite Town, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Olarinde who spoke to PUNCH Metro on Sunday said he petitioned the state Commissioner of Police on July 22, 2024, to arrest and investigate individuals accused of earlier invading his community.

Olarinde also alleged that the individuals, aided by some security agents, entered his house and apartment without a court order and carted away properties worth millions of naira.

The prince alleged that despite the arrest of about 40 miscreants after the incident, some police officers allegedly compromised the investigation by collecting money from the suspects and releasing them without prosecution

He added that the suspects returned to the community after their release.

He said, “Two letters were written and addressed to the Lagos CP by Femi Falana Chamber, one was minuted to Cp Tactical Area E (PPL, Okoko) to get rid of the thugs and hoodlums invading our houses and our community; to investigate our community palace and houses built for our family by the Federal Government which was demolished and to investigate those who forcibly entered our community land and investigate those who robbed and stole from our house.

“However, after we arrested about 40 miscreants, both the ones invading my house and the demolished palace, some officers collected money from these miscreants and suspects releasing them without diligent investigation and prosecution hence these miscreants returned to our community and continued to carry out all manners of crimes in our houses and community, constituting threats to us.”

Olarinde however appealed to the police authorities to rid the suspected hoodlums in the community and also investigate and prosecute them accordingly.

He said, “We want the police to help us get rid of the thugs and hoodlums invading our community, invite or arrest the people we complained against, investigate them and prosecute them accordingly, and help us restore everything they stole and carted away from me and my family.”

The state Police Public Relations, Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached for comments as calls made to his phone were not responded to. A text message sent to him had yet to be replied to as of the time this report was filed.
