APC criticizes PDP for politicizing stampede tragedies, defends Tinubu’s reforms

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly exploiting recent stampede tragedies in Oyo, Anambra, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to score political points.

The incidents, which claimed several lives, have drawn national attention and widespread grief.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC expressed heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families.

However, the party condemned the PDP for turning the tragedies into what it termed a “senseless attack” on the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“It is grossly indecent, insensitive, and despicable for the PDP to exploit these tragic incidents in a baseless attack against an administration working to repair the damage caused by nearly two decades of PDP mismanagement,” the statement read.

The APC further recalled the 2014 Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment disaster, which occurred under a PDP-led government and resulted in the deaths of several job seekers. The party accused the PDP of hypocrisy, citing what it described as the opposition’s “poor record of governance and administrative failures.”

Defending President Tinubu’s leadership, the APC highlighted key achievements of his administration, including the promotion of alternative energy solutions, the launch of the Credit Corps scheme and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, and the implementation of salary increments for workers and corps members.

“These initiatives demonstrate a government committed to improving the welfare of Nigerians and addressing long-standing challenges,” the APC stated.

The ruling party dismissed allegations by the PDP that the Tinubu administration has undermined a thriving economy. Instead, the APC argued that successive PDP governments ran a “phantom economy” plagued by corruption and inefficiency.

“President Tinubu has launched one of the boldest economic reform programs in Nigeria’s history, dismantling barriers to sustainable prosperity,” the statement continued. “The economy is steadily rebounding as these reforms begin to yield significant results.”

The APC reaffirmed its commitment to addressing Nigeria’s challenges and urged the opposition to focus on constructive engagement rather than politicizing national tragedies.
