The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended at least four suspects for allegedly stealing a motorcycle and a gas cylinder in the Ajuwon Community and Odeda areas.

Our correspondent exclusively learnt on Wednesday that the three suspects were arrested by police operatives in the Ajuwon and Odeda divisions on Tuesday in a series of arrests related to theft and assault.

PUNCH Metro reports that the suspects including Joseph Ogu and Sunday Jeremiah were arrested for alleged theft while Isikilu Azeez and Faruq Azeez were apprehended for allegedly attacking local security operatives who were attempting to arrest a fleeing suspect, identified only as Lati, in the Iyana-Efon area of Odeda.

Speaking on the Ajuwon incident, the spokesperson for the command, Omolola Odutola, stated that a commercial motorcyclist, Adebiyi Philip, had parked his Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with the number plate TRE 228 WZ at Alapara Junction while searching for a passenger

Upon returning, Odutola said the commercial motorcyclist discovered that his motorcycle was missing from the spot where he had parked it.

After conducting a thorough search, the command noted that Adebiyi found the motorcycle with Ogu, a 33-year-old man, who was caught tampering with its key and security system.

The suspect, Odutola said, was promptly arrested and detained, while the motorcycle was recovered from the scene, adding that the matter was under investigation, with further updates expected.

Similarly, a theft and assault incident occurred in Iyana-Efon Kila, under the Odeda Local Government Area, where a member of the Nigeria Hunter and Safety Group, Dele Sosanya, reported that Lati, a suspect in the theft of kolanut seeds from his farm on December 19 and 22, fled the community when he (Sosanya) attempted to confront him.

However, at 10:15 am on Christmas Eve, the police said the suspect was allegedly spotted again, and when attempts were made to arrest him, he allegedly became violent.

Odutola disclosed that while local security forces attempted to apprehend the suspect, two accomplices, Isikilu Azeez and Faruq Azeez, attacked a security officer, Segun Owolabi, with a machete.

Odutola revealed that the officer sustained severe injuries before a patrol team arrived at the scene and arrested Isikilu and Faruq, while Lati fled the community.

She said, “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Lati, who managed to flee. The case is under investigation by the DCB, and the suspects remain in custody.”

In another incident within the Odeda Division, Odutola said a 35-year-old man, Jeremiah, was handed over to the police by the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps after he was caught with a stolen gas cylinder.

“The cylinder was taken from Ijemo Secondary School in Odeda. Following the arrest, detectives were dispatched to the school, confirming that the cylinder had indeed been stolen from the school store.

The school principal has been informed, and Jeremiah is currently in custody while we investigate further. All cases are under active investigation, and we are working to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Odutola added.
