Public anger is mounting in Ogun State following allegations that the police released Inspector Moses Momoh, a policeman accused of shooting a civilian, just 24 hours after his arrest.

The victim, Olaleye Abdullahi, was reportedly shot by Inspector Momoh, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

The incident occurred on December 12, 2024, in front of the Matrix Petrol Station along Kara-Berger Road.

According to eyewitnesses, Inspector Momoh, attached to the Warewa Police Station, fired his weapon twice during the incident.

The first shot reportedly prompted warnings from onlookers, but the officer fired again, hitting Abdullahi, who was driving home.

Abdullahi has been left bedridden in a private hospital, with his medical bills climbing to nearly N4 million. Despite the severity of the case, family members claim that Inspector Momoh was detained at Adigboluja Police Station, Ojodu Berger, for just one day before being released.

“We demand that all necessary legal measures be taken against Inspector Moses Momoh to ensure justice is served,” Abdullahi’s family stated, expressing frustration over the police’s alleged inaction.

They further criticized police authorities for failing to assist with Abdullahi’s medical care, leaving the family to bear the financial burden.

“This heinous act cannot go unpunished. The officer responsible must face justice,” a family representative told Sahara Reporters, calling for accountability and a thorough investigation into the incident.
