EFCC returns stolen land documents to owners, warns against fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered and returned four land title documents to their rightful owners after uncovering a syndicate involved in land fraud in Abuja.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede stated that the syndicate forged land documents, falsified signatures, and used fake identification to illegally acquire properties.

Acting on intelligence, EFCC operatives arrested those responsible and retrieved the documents.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS), and the Department of Land Administration.

The recovered documents include:

Plot 895, Kaura District (valued at ₦150 million) – returned to Asinobi Ogbuefi.

Plot 714, Jahi District (worth ₦400 million) – handed over to the family of late Joseph Daze.

Plot 625, Guzape District (₦200 million) – reclaimed by Nuhu Umar.

Plot 1167, Katampe Extension (₦250 million) – returned to Omar Bintawa.

Olukoyede warned that EFCC would not allow fraudsters to profit from criminal activities, urging Nigerians to conduct thorough verification before purchasing land.

FCT Director of Lands, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, praised the EFCC for restoring confidence in the land administration system and exposing corrupt officials.

A beneficiary, Nuhu Umar, expressed gratitude, saying he had lost hope of recovering his land but was now relieved.

This comes after a Federal High Court order for the interim forfeiture of four plots linked to a fraudulent scheme involving Homadil Realty Limited and its managing director, Bilkisu Aliyu (a.k.a. Rebecca Godwin), accused of document forgery and illegal sales.
