Dogara accuses Gov Bala Mohammed of betraying Wike, reveals 2018 campaign support

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has criticized Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, accusing him of turning against his political benefactor, Nyesom Wike, the former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Dogara made the revelation in a statement on Tuesday through his media aide, Turaki Hassan.

He alleged that in 2018, Mohammed pleaded with Wike for financial support to fund his gubernatorial campaign, even going as far as kneeling before him in desperation.

The comments come amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where Mohammed and Wike are at odds over the party’s direction.

The dispute revolves around key leadership positions, including the National Chairman and Secretary, which are reportedly held by Wike’s allies.

Mohammed had recently accused Wike of betraying the PDP by allegedly supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 presidential election, calling for his resignation as FCT Minister.

However, Dogara countered Mohammed’s claims, revealing that Wike not only provided financial assistance for his 2019 gubernatorial bid but also made a private jet available for his campaign.

“Wike bore all the costs, from providing a private jet to flying Chief Dan to Bauchi, to personally ensuring Mohammed’s emergence as PDP’s flag bearer,” Dogara stated.

He expressed shock that Mohammed, who lacked the financial means to fund his campaign at the time, would now label Wike a “transactional politician.”

Describing Mohammed’s actions as a “classic case of biting the hand that fed him,” Dogara further accused him of being a “serial betrayer” and a “psychopath.”

He also highlighted Mohammed’s history of political defections, recalling how he moved from the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) to the PDP while benefiting from a PDP-led administration.
