APC expels Rauf Aregbesola over alleged anti-party activities

Rauf Aregbesola, the former Minister of Interior and two-term governor of Osun State, has been expelled from the All Progressives Congress (APC) over accusations of anti-party activities.

A letter issued by the party leadership on Wednesday confirmed Aregbesola’s expulsion, citing violations of Article 21 of the APC constitution.

The letter, titled “Allegations of Anti-Party Activities – Conveyance of State Exco Decision to You,” states that after an investigation, the State Executive Committee (SEC) reviewed the Disciplinary Committee’s findings and resolved to expel him from the party.

The letter further outlined that the expulsion was based on clear evidence of Aregbesola’s actions, which were seen as detrimental to the unity and integrity of the APC.

It also stated that Aregbesola must no longer present himself as a member of the party or act on its behalf in any capacity.

This move comes just days after Aregbesola’s faction, the Omoluabi Progressives, announced its decision to leave the APC.

The group’s spokesperson, Oluwaseun Abosede, explained that the decision was made during a meeting attended by stakeholders from all 332 wards in Osun State, citing issues such as unfair treatment of members and neglect within the party structure.

The Omoluabi Progressives, led by Aregbesola, was also blamed for contributing to the APC’s loss in the 2022 governorship election, which saw the emergence of Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party.
