IPAC demands apology from Atiku over N50m bribery claim against opposition

National Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Yusuf Dantalle has demanded an apology from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his claim that opposition leaders are taking funds from the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku recently claimed that the Federal Government is paying some opposition members and leaders N50m to destabilise the opposition parties.

However, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today show on Friday, Dantalle said he would not take the allegation lightly.

“You (Atiku) may have your information but that is not enough for you to come out and say all members of the opposition have been given N50 million. As far as I know, my party is the Allied Peoples Movement and today I manage the umbrella body of all political parties in Nigeria, there is no national chairman or leader anywhere that collected money that I know,” he said.

The IPAC leader said Atiku was heating up the polity unnecessarily and creating an atmosphere of suspicion.

“What I expect Atiku to do, with due respect, is to apologise to opposition leaders the same way he made the allegation or he identifies and mentions the opposition leaders who are involved in this rubbish,” he said.

Dantalle added that he has spoken with various chairmen of political parties and they are upset over Atiku’s statement.
