PDP Crisis: We must uphold justice, Bode George urges party leaders

A Board of Trustees (BoT) member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has called for calm among party leaders and members amid the ongoing leadership crisis.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, George expressed concern that if the internal conflict persists, the PDP could become a rudderless ship.

He urged party elders to act responsibly and ensure fairness in resolving the crisis.

“I appeal to everyone as an elder, one of those elected at the very first elective convention of the party in December 1999. This is not the time to use the party’s structure to undermine people,” he said.

He warned against hasty disciplinary actions, emphasizing that those handling the process must do so with clean hands to maintain credibility.

George also stressed the importance of justice and equity, noting that the party has already overcome its first major hurdle and must now work to restore stability.

“The beauty is that we still have the responsibility to ensure justice, fairness, and equity. I want to plead with them—don’t abandon the ship. The ship is already in a storm, and if we are not careful, it will become rudderless and sink,” he cautioned.

Addressing the recent decision by the PDP Board of Trustees to recognize Sunday Ude-Okoye as the authentic National Secretary, George reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the rule of law.

“The fact that he was recognized—I am completely on board with that. The report was clear that there was no counter ruling from the Court of Appeal apart from the one supporting Ude-Okoye.

“If (Samuel) Anyanwu decides to take the case to the Supreme Court, and the ruling is overturned, we will abide by that decision,” he added.

George urged party members to set aside personal interests and work together to restore unity within the PDP, warning that failure to do so could weaken the party’s structure.
