Delta 2027: 10 PDP lawmakers set to defect to APC – Omo-Agege

Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has revealed that 10 lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Delta State House of Assembly are on the verge of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Omo-Agege, who was the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, made this known on Saturday during an event in Uro-Irri, where he officially welcomed Chief Itiako Ikpokpo, a former two-term chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, into the APC.

He asserted that the long-standing dominance of the PDP in Delta State was weakening, with a significant shift in the state’s political landscape underway.

“A major political realignment is about to take place in the Delta State House of Assembly, as 10 lawmakers from the PDP are set to join the APC,” he stated.

He further explained that the APC currently has seven lawmakers in the House, and the defection of 10 PDP members would increase the party’s representation to 17, potentially altering the balance of power in the state legislature.

Omo-Agege credited the APC’s growing influence in Delta to President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, which, according to him, have significantly boosted the state’s federal allocations to over N1 trillion within 18 months.

“The positive economic strides under Tinubu’s administration are a testament to APC’s commitment to good governance. These achievements are attracting more political figures to the party,” he said.

He described Ikpokpo’s defection as a major boost for the APC, emphasizing that he had persistently encouraged him to join.

“I have long urged Ikpokpo to align with the APC, and today, he has made that decision,” Omo-Agege remarked.

In response, Ikpokpo vowed to contribute to strengthening the APC’s presence in Delta State, calling for unity among party members to ensure victory in 2027.

“To defeat the PDP in 2027, we must embrace new members and work together as one,” he declared.
