The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of an unidentified motorcyclist in a lone crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to a statement released on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the accident was reported by an officer from the Ibafo Divisional Police Headquarters. The incident occurred on Thursday near the NNPC Filling Station in Ibafo.

Ms Odutola stated that the crash involved a yellow Quic motorcycle with an unknown registration number.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the rider was speeding when he lost control and collided with a roadside culvert near the fuel station.

The impact caused the motorcycle to burst into flames and was completely destroyed by fire. The rider died instantly.

Emergency responders, including officers from the Motor Traffic Police (MOTOPOL) Unit, quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation.

The body of the deceased was transported to the mortuary at Real Divine Hospital, Ibafo, while the remains of the burnt motorcycle were moved to the police station for further examination by the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO).

Ms Odutola urged road users, especially motorcyclists, to adhere strictly to speed limits and safety regulations to prevent avoidable accidents.

She added that investigations into the incident are ongoing and further updates will be provided to the public in due course.
