HON.TOMIDE AKINRIBIDO’s FIRST YEAR IN OFFICE- A JOURNEY OF PURPOSEFUL,EFFECTIVE AND VIBRANT LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATION.

On March 9, 2019, the good people of Ondo West Constituency 1 across the six (6)Wards of the constituency,trooped to the polls and massively voted for one of their sons,Hon.Tomide Akinribido,to be their representative at the Ondo State House of Assembly Ninth Session.

The election result was adjudged by analysts as an outcome of Hon.Tomide’s strategic electoral campaign which spanned about eleven (11) months of intense consultations and dialogue with stakeholders across the constituency he sought to represent and the electorates in general.
The good people of Ondo West Constituency 1 would recall that,prior to the election of Hon. Tomide Akinribido while on campaign tour, he promised to give quality representation, champion and be part of any programme that will engage the youths and his constituents at large in a positive way if elected as a lawmaker.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone/group that the Deputy-Minority Leader in the Ondo State House Assembly, Hon. Tomide Akinribido has lived up to the expectation in the areas of interventions, programmes and activities as promised in the last 365 legislative days in office across the constituency. The major concern of Hon. Tomide Akinribido is the socio-economic development of the constituency and the welfare of youths in his constituency.
SOME OF THE ACHIEVEMENT RECORDED IN THE LAST 365 DAYS IN OFFICE

1.INTERVENTIONS
a.) FLOOD DISASTER IN ONDO WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA
On 7th June,2019, Hon. Tomide Akinribido visited some flooded areas in Ondo, under Ondo West constituency 1 to assess the damage done by a terrific flood that occurred some days earlier.
(A) Some of the areas visited were;
(i) Funbi-Fagun Road 3
(ii) Lipakala Area
(iii) New Town Area
(iv) Arilekolasi,Yaba
(v) Sunbreakers street.

(B) Damages Caused By The Flood
(i) Collapse of buildings – New Town
(ii) Destruction of ware shops and loss of properties to flood – New Town
(iii) Submergence of buildings – New Town

On 11th June, 2019
Hon. Tomide Akinribido forwarded a letter to the Ondo State Ministry of Environment, drawing the attention of the Hon. Commissioner for Environment to the flooding disaster that occurred in Ondo West LGA for quick intervention.

On 14th June, 2019
Hon. Akinribido met with the Ondo State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Funso Esa, as a follow up to the letter he submitted to the Ministry.

On 15th June, 2019
Hon. Akinribido embarked on a trip with the Director of Ecology and other officials of the Ministry of Environment where they transverse all the affected areas within the constituency and did a spot assessment of the wreckage caused by the flood disaster.

Analysis- on October 10 2019,Hon.Akinribido raised a motion of matter of urgent public importance on the floor of the house to alert the Honorable house of the refusal of the state ministry of environment to expedite action on the flooding issues in his constituency. the ministry of environment has now captured the affected areas in ondo west constituency 1 in the list of intervention projects for year 2020. Recent monitoring indicated that officials of the ministry will move to ondo west shortly after the completion of ongoing intervention work in ile-oluji/oke-igbo local government.

2) VALENTINO-IFE ROAD AXIS
Due to the impassable state of the strategic Valentino-Ife road Axis which had caused severe discomfort to the residents and travelers,Hon.Akinribido pressed on the state ministry of work to rehabilitate the road. It is important to note that other political leaders from Ondo West LGA,particularly the Commisioner and Special Adviser also played prominent roles in ensuring that the state government rehabilitated the road. Hon. Akinribido met with the Ondo State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye and Special Adviser to the governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Raimi Aminu, to draw the attention of the Ministry of Works to helmsmen to the poor state of some internal roads particularly the Valentino-Ife road axis, and some streets in Ondo township for rehabilitation, construction and grading works in the year 2020.

On 13th November, 2019
Hon. Akinribido joined officials of the ministry of work and other political leaders from ondo west LGA to flag-off Valentino-Ife road rehabilitation and general rehabilitation of roads in Ondo west constituency 1.

3) UNLAWFUL ARREST OF YOUTHS AND ENTREPRENEURS IN ONDO WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT
On 9th March, 2020
Hon. Tomide Akinribido and his colleague, Hon. Wale Williams, who is representing Ondo West constituency 2, met with the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Andie Udie for a security briefing on recent happenings in Ondo West LGA, where they informed the CP over the high rate of armed robbery in Ondo kingdom and the unlawful arrest of young businessmen based on frivolous charges. The CP expressed his delight at their visit and immediately took action to guarantee the release of the arrested person and promised to increase surveillance in Ondo city in order to curb the growing menace of armed robbery. it is important to note that such arbitrary arrests have now stopped.

4) NIGERIAN LADY FROM ONDO TOWN TRAFFICKED TO OMAN
On 3rd May, 2020
The attention of Hon. Tomide Akinribido was drawn to a trending report about the travails of one of his constituents, Miss Adetula Adetomisin, in the middle eastern country of Oman, who was trafficked for domestic work cried out for help after being enslaved and sexually harassed by her boss. On getting the report, Hon. Akinribido swung into action by placing phone calls to her parents for details and immediately proceeded to get in touch with the NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA COMMISSION (NIDCOM) for quick intervention, in order for her to be repatriated to Nigeria.

On 12th May, 2020
Hon. Akinribido received the good news from NATIONAL AGENCY FOR THE PROHIBITION OF TRAFFICKING IN PERSOINS (NAPTIP) that Mr Ojo Peter, the agent who trafficked Miss Adetula Adetomisin to Oman has been arrested by officials of the agency in Lagos. Currently, efforts ongoing by NAPTIP and NIDCOM for repatriation of Miss Adetomisin after assuring Hon. Akinribido of their swift action.

PROGRAMMES
1) HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT
a.)On 8th October, 2019
Hon. Tomide Akinribido flagged off social intervention programme tagged: SMALL-SCALE COMMUNITY TRADER INITIATIVE; a scheme where selected community traders received cash empowerment to boost their trade. The maiden edition of the scheme focused on women (adult women and ladies), whereas subsequent editions will comprises both genders as beneficiaries. the second edition which was planned for May 2020 has been unable to hold due to the recent COVID19 restrictions on large gatherings.
b.) On 20th March, 2020
Hon. Tomide Akinribido flagged off an entrepreneurial training programme at Jewel Fashion House, as the 3rd edition of its Girls Empowerment Training Skills (GETS). Currently, 30 women across the six wards of the Ondo West constituency 1 are undergoing entrepreneurial skills in;
(i) Fashion designing
(ii) Cake making
(iii) Hair styling
(iv) Ankara crafts
(v) Makeup artistry
(vi) Confectioneries;
under the sponsorship of Hon. Akinribido.
c. )PURCHASE OF 2020 JAMB FORMS
Hon. Tomide Akinribido purchased 2020 JAMB Forms for indigent students across the first selected secondary school students in Ondo West constituency 1
(i) St. Joseph’s College, Ondo
(ii) St. Monica’s Girls Grammar School, Ondo
(iii) Celestial Grammar School, Ondo
(iv) AUD Community Comprehensive High School, Ondo
(v) Jubilee Grammar School, Ondo
(vi) Ondo Grammar School, Ondo
(vii). St.Stephen’s Secondary School,Ondo
d. Sponsorship of fifty(50) young entrepreneurs to the GATHERING OF YOUNG CEOS.

2.FACILITATION OF DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS.
a.)INSTALLATION OF FOUR BOREHOLES IN ONDO WEST CONSTITUENCY 1
Hon. Tomide Akinribido has facilitated the drilling of four fully installed boreholes to the people of Ondo West constituency 1. As part of the conscious efforts to fulfil his campaign promises to seek funding for the execution of projects and partner with relevant state Ministries and agencies to bring developmental projects to Ondo West constituency 1, Hon. Akinribido partnered with the Ondo state Ministry of Water Resources and nominated critical areas within his constituency when he received complaints of lack of access to potable water during his electioneering campaign.
The areas where the boreholes have been fully installed include:
(i) Agbekola street, Lotogbe
(ii) Mobayode lane, Ogunsulire street, Yaba
(iii) Loro street, Odosida
(iv) Olomidudu street, off Okerowo, Sokoti
b.Ongoing
– renovation of deteriorated stalls and convenience at the moferere market(inspection and evaluation completed,work to commence in July 2020).
c. Facilitation of a functional Tech hub(to be sited in Ondo Boys High School…renovation of donated laboratory by the school and equipment to commence in July 2020).

> First ever interactive session with one hundred(100) Ondo kingdom youths after his electoral victory.

> Donation of customised notebooks and food items during 2019 El-Dul Adha Sallah children programme, organised by Ondo Muslim Forum (OMF)

>Co-sponsorship of the Ondo Kingdom Peace Football Cup finals,organised by the ONDO EKIMOGUN YOUTH CONGRESS(OEYC).

> Distribution of phase 1 and 2 of COVID-19 relief food items for over 1,000 households across the seven urban wards of Ondo West Local Government Area.
