Three employees of the Lagos State House of Assembly have apologised to the Department of State Services (DSS) after being arrested for assaulting its officers during the recent leadership crisis at the legislative house.

The Assembly had initially invited the DSS to enhance security at the premises through a letter dated February 14, 2025, and signed by Acting Clerk Babatunde Ottun.

The letter, referenced as LSHA/FAD/0/7554/323, requested DSS protection from February 15 onward.

However, when DSS operatives arrived, some Assembly workers clashed with them, leading to the arrest of three individuals based on CCTV footage.

The DSS subsequently filed assault charges against them.

In separate apology letters dated March 28, 2025, Public Affairs Officer Ibrahim Olarenwaju and two Sergeant-at-Arms officers, Adetola Oluwatosin and Adetu Adekunle, expressed regret to DSS Director General Adeola Ajayi. The letters, submitted through the Lagos State Director of Security, conveyed their remorse and commitment to maintaining good conduct in the future.

One of the letters, written by Olarenwaju, stated: “I hereby tender my unreserved apology for any act or omission that I might have caused your distinguished office (the DSS) and personnel in the course of my duty at the Lagos State House of Assembly on February 17, 2025.”

Earlier in February, Speaker of the Assembly Mudashiru Obasa had also apologised to both the DSS and the Nigerian Police Force, describing the attack on their officers as unfortunate.
