Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has pledged compensation for the families of 16 hunters who lost their lives in Uromi.

PROMPTNEWS reports that the hunters were attacked by a vigilante group while traveling to Kano.

During a condolence visit to the victims’ families in Torankawa, Kano State, Okpebholo, accompanied by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, expressed sympathy and reassured them of his administration’s commitment to ensuring justice.

“We are working on arrangements to provide compensation to all affected families,” he said.

He commended Kano residents for maintaining peace despite the tragic loss. “I appreciate the people of Kano and the entire North for their patience and for not resorting to any form of reprisal,” he added.

The Edo governor also confirmed that 14 suspects had already been arrested and assured that the case would be pursued thoroughly. “Justice will be served, and we will not relent until those responsible are held accountable,” he stated.

Governor Yusuf, while offering prayers for the deceased, reaffirmed his commitment to working with Okpebholo to ensure that all suspects face prosecution.

“We are coordinating efforts to ensure justice is done and that the families receive full compensation,” Yusuf assured.

He also announced financial and material support for the bereaved families, emphasizing that the government remains dedicated to securing justice for the victims.
