A pregnant woman in labor has died after allegedly being refused treatment at a private hospital due to her inability to pay a ₦500,000 deposit.
The tragic incident was first shared in February by her husband, Akinbobola Folajimi, on Instagram and recently gained widespread attention on social media.
A heartbreaking video shows Folajimi pleading with his wife, Kemi, as she struggles to stay conscious inside a car. Desperately urging her to hold on, he reminded her to think of their children.
In a later post announcing her death, he revealed that the private hospital turned them away despite his pleas for urgent medical attention.
He begged the doctors to start treatment while he arranged for the deposit, but they allegedly refused and referred them to a general hospital in Epe.
“The doctor told me to deposit ₦500,000. I begged him to start treatment while I looked for the money, but they drove us out like we didn’t matter,” he wrote. “They asked me to take her to a general hospital in Epe, knowing how far that is from Lakwe. By the time we got there, she was gone.”
The video has sparked widespread outrage, with many condemning the hospital’s actions and calling for justice.
